Common Pet Parent Worries

“I worry I don’t give my dog a good enough life.”

A ‘good life’ for your dog is about overall love, care, and connection, not perfection. Studies on dog walking habits indicate that 57% of dog owners feel guilt over missed walks or insufficient exercise duration. Approximately 8 out of 10 dog owners feel guilty or worried when leaving their dogs home alone.

Group walks and home drop-ins expand their world - keeping them on the move and satisfied. The aim at Paws in the Pines is not only to improve the quality of life for your pet, but also to alleviate the stress and guilt that inevitably comes from being a pet parent.

“Do I leave my pet alone for too long.”

Each individual is different but for most healthy adult dogs, 4-5 hours is a reasonable limit to leave your dog alone for. However, dogs are not naturally solitary animals and do not generally enjoy being left alone. As social, pack-oriented creatures, they are biologically driven to bond with a group—whether that is other dogs or a human family—for safety and companionship. We offer group walks, adventure days and home drop-in visits to accommodate these basic needs of your pup for when you are busy.

“I’ve sustained an injury and cannot provide the care my pet is used to.”

We understand that life is full of unforeseen events and occasionally, circumstances mean that through no fault of your own, the care of your loved companion isn’t top notch. At Paws in the Pines, we offer services on an ‘as and when needed’ basis, as well as on a regular basis. We are here to help.

“I walk my dog for an hour every day, is that enough?”

You should speak to your vet for your individual dog’s exercise requirements, however as a rough guide:

  • Low activity breeds such as Bulldog, Miniature Dachshund and Bichon Frise generally need about 30-60 minutes of exercise daily.

  • Moderate activity breeds such as Cocker Spaniel, Labrador and Border Terrier generally need about 60-90 minutes of exercise daily.

  • High activity breeds such as Dalmatian, Golden Retriever and English Springer Spaniel need about 90-120 minutes of exercise daily.

We recognise dogs as the individuals that they are and we consider their own individual quirks, personalities and needs.  On our walks, we not only cater for their exercise requirements, but their mental stimulation needs as well.

“Do I have to walk my dog in nature?”

No, you do not have to walk your dog exclusively in nature as urban areas still provide stimulation and bonding time. However, regular nature walks offer superior sensory enrichment and decompression. Below are a few of the benefits your dog can can gain from walking with a group in a nature setting.

Mobility & Lifespan | Cardiovascular Health | Strong Body | Weight Management
